Why ShopsUp is rewarding customers for window shopping

ShopsUp, a location-based shopping app claims to be the first player in online commerce to incentivise its customers just for their behaviour. Simply put, even if you don’t make a purchase through the app, you would still get your reward points or shots as they call it.

The app allows consumers to discover relevant shopping outlets around them and at the same time reward them with shots. The shots can be redeemed instantly for any other experience like a movie ticket, cab ride, spa or a gift voucher depending on the redemption partners ShopsUp has tied up with.

“Indian millennials want to be rewarded for their window shopping as well as actual shopping behaviour and marketers want to capture these moments as they happen,” said Suhas Gopinath, co-founder & CEO of the startup.

The brand and retail partners in turn get complete visibility into the consumers’ shopping behaviour. “ShopsUp’s innovative technology and use of analytics allows us to partner with top brands and local boutiques and provide them with customised solutions that dramatically differ from existing options available for retailers,” said Gopinath.

Gopinath who co-founded the startup along with Anmol Vij has been working on this venture since past 7 months until it was official launched on November 29. ShopsUp has raised a $1 million of seed funding from two HNI investors – Anand Sankeshwar, MD at VRL Logistics and Yang Shu, former president of Huawei Technologies.

The co-founders said they are in the process of raising more capital that will be used to bridge the gap between online and offline shopping.
